ABSTRACT

Abstract This study was aimed to investigate Carbofuran (CF)-induced pathological changes in cattle egret. Two hundred cattle egrets were reared and equally divided into four groups and given different CF concentrations (0.03 mg/L, 0.02 mg/L, 0.01 mg/L and 0 mg/L (control group)). Hematology, serum biochemistry, histopathology, and immunological markers were studied. Our results confirm that CF induces anemic conditions, leukocytosis, elevated liver enzymatic activity, and alterations in renal biomarkers. Moreover, specific microscopic lesions such as multifocal necrosis, pyknotic nuclei, hemorrhages, congestion, and inflammatory cell proliferation were observed in the liver, kidney, spleen, and thymus. These findings suggest that CF can induce harmful effects, so the application of this pesticide in the field must be strictly monitored to mitigate the possibility of exposure to non-target species.


Resumo Este estudo teve como objetivo investigar as alterações patológicas induzidas por carbofurano (CF) em garças-vaqueiras. Duzentas dessas garças foram criadas e divididas igualmente em quatro grupos e receberam diferentes concentrações de CF: 0,03 mg/L; 0,02 mg/L; 0,01 mg/L; e 0 mg/L (grupo controle). On 5th and 7th day of post infection oropharyngeal swabs were negative for NDV and cloacal swabs were positive for NDV through Reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. It is concluded that ducks are susceptible to NDV and virulent strain of NDV caused disease in ducks.


Resumo A doença de Newcastle (DN) é uma doença infecciosa, altamente contagiosa e letal de espécies aviárias. Considera-se que os patos são reservatórios ou portadores naturais do vírus da doença de Newcastle (VDN) e são resistentes a diferentes cepas de VDN. O presente estudo foi desenvolvido para avaliar a patogênese da DN em patos domésticos por meio de histopatologia, imuno-histoquímica (IHQ) e alterações bioquímicas séricas. Para este propósito, 80 patos foram criados por 42 dias e divididos em dois grupos A e B. Os patos do grupo A foram submetidos ao VDN a uma taxa de 0,1 ml de ELD50 (título viral de 107,32 / 100 µl) na segunda semana de idade, enquanto o Grupo B foi controle negativo. Esplenomegalia, atrofia do timo e lesão necrótica no rim foram observadas no 9º dia pós-infecção. Degeneração hepática e infiltração de células mononucleares foram observadas no proventrículo e intestino em patos infectados. ABSTRACT

Objectives@#In the Philippines, there has been a lack of information on the concordance between classifications of Hansen’s disease or leprosy clinically, histopathologically, and with AFS results. The study ultimately aimed to determine the concordance between the clinical diagnosis, histopathological results, and AFS results of patients with leprosy seen at the Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium (DJNRMHS). @*Methods@#This is a descriptive, retrospective, single-center study conducted at the DJNRMHS, a tertiary government hospital and one of the last remaining sanitaria in the country located in northern Metro Manila in the Philippines. The study reviewed and included all the patient records from the years 2017-2019 which included skin biopsy results and slit-skin smear with AFS. Leprosy patients were then classified based on the following classifications: World Health Organization (WHO) and Ridley-Jopling classifications; and the concordance of clinical diagnosis vs the histopathologic findings and clinical diagnosis vs AFS results were determined using kappa testing.

Context and Aim: There is increasing prevalence of post-COVID fungal infection of rhinoorbitocerebral region especially mucormycosis and aspergillosis in India.[1] Early diagnosis of these fungal infections are of utmost importance, since it may improve outcome and survival.[2],[3],[4],[5],[6],[7],[8] The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare routine laboratory diagnostic methods, that is, histopathological examination, KOH wet mount and fungal culture in the diagnosis of post-COVID fungal infections. Materials and Methods: A total of 106 specimens of clinically suspected patients of post-COVID fungal infection of rhinoorbitocerebral region received in histopathology department were included in this study. The data of KOH wet mount and culture were acquired from the microbiology department after histopathological examination. Result: Approximately 88.68% of patients were diagnosed having fungal infections by one of the laboratory methods. The sensitivity of histopathological examination was highest (79.78%), followed by KOH wet mount (58.51%) and fungal culture (35.10%). Rhizopus species of zygomycetes group were the most common isolate (24.24%) on SDA culture. Overall 76% concordance was found between histopathological examination and fungal culture report for morphological identification of fungi. Conclusion: For the diagnosis of post-COVID fungal infection of Rhino-orbito-cerebral region, histopathological examination is was found to be more sensitive and rapid method to detect fungal hyphae. It leads to early treatment, prevents morbidity and mortality.

Background: Cervical cancer is a major global health problem, with a high burden in developing countries. Early detection and management of precancerous conditions, such as cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), can help to prevent the development of cervical cancer. Colposcopy, which involves the visualization of the cervix through optical instruments, is considered the gold standard for the diagnosis of cervical abnormalities. The aim of the study was to assess the correlation between colposcopy findings and histopathological results in cases where visual inspection of the cervix with acetic acid (VIA) was positive. Material & Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Department of Gynecology, Institute of Child and Mother Health, Matuail, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The study duration was 1 year, from November 2017 to October 2018. Participants were recruited from the hospital’s gynecology outpatient department and included 95 women who had a positive VIA test. A Purposive consecutive sampling method was followed for the selection of the participants. Results: The study included 95 patients in Bangladesh who had a positive VIA test. The age distribution of the patients ranged from 25 to 60 years, with a mean age of 35.89±8.88 years. The majority of patients (85.3%) had acetowhite areas, followed by 11 (11.5%) punctuation and 3 (3.2%) mixed (acetowhite area and mosaicism). Histopathological findings revealed that one-third (33.6%) of patients had chronic cervicitis, with 36 (378.8%) having moderate dysplasia, 16 (16.8%) having mild dysplasia, 7 (7.5%) having invasive carcinoma, and 4 (4.2%) having chronic cervicitis with sq. metaplasia. Among the cases, the comparison between colposcopy-directed biopsy results and Colposcopy findings. It was observed that more than one-fourth of 24(29.7%) patients were chronic cervicitis in pure acetowhite area, 8(72.7%) in punctuation, and all patients were mild dysplasia in mixed (acetowhite area and mosaicism). Among 81 patients 53 patients presented with pre-cancerous lesions. The difference was statically significant (p<0.05) in the study patients. Conclusion: Colposcopy, which involves the visualization of the cervix through optical instruments, was found to be an effective tool for the diagnosis of cervical abnormalities in these cases. These findings highlight the importance of colposcopy as a diagnostic tool for cervical abnormalities, particularly in resource-limited settings where access to other screening methods may be limited.

Background: Intra operative pathological assessment has offered a very valuable service in patient management. The present study was done to evaluate the status of intraoperative cytology as a diagnostic and supportive investigation for various tumours. To evaluate the utility of imprint /scrape cytology for the rapid diagnosis ofAim and objectives: surgically removed specimens. 70 surgically removed specimens from various organs andMaterials and Methods: systems were studied. Smears were taken from each specimen before formalin fixation and stained by modified rapid H&E and Papanicolaou staining. Cytological diagnosis was made and then results were compared with the histological diagnosis taking the latter as the gold standard. Out of the 70 cases sampled, 70 were satisfactory forResults: evaluation. Overall accuracy rate was 87.14 % .Six cases of false positive diagnosis and 3 false negative diagnosis were made .Positive predictive value was 75% and negative predictive value was 93.47%. Imprint /scrapeConclusions: cytology is a good complement for the rapid diagnosis in histopathological study of tumor/tumor like lesions and intra operative cytology can be used an adjunct to frozen section.

Background: Exposure to high levels of aluminium (Al) leads to neurotoxicity. Hippocampus is one of the preferred sites of aluminium accumulation. Nevertheless, the role of Al in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) remains controversial and there is little proof directly interlinking Al to AD. Aims: The present study was undertaken to find out the occurrence of AD pathogenesis in Hippocampus under moderate aluminium exposure in rats. Materials and Methods: Adult rats were divided into control (C) and aluminium treated (E) groups having eight animal each. The rats in group E were exposed to aluminium 4.2 mg/kg body weight for three months with due approval from Institute Animal Ethics Committee. The hippocampus was processed for histopathological and electron microscopy observation. Results: Moderate Al intake produces significant reduction in the count of Pyramidal cells in hippocampus identified by shrunken cells as well as pyknosis in cell bodies. The differences between the cell numbers in all groups were found to be statistically significant (P < 0.05). Cornu Ammonis (CA) exhibited significantly reduced nissl bodies with a marked reduction in neuronal cell loss. Neurofibrillary tangle and plaques were not seen in the given dose of Al exposure. Electron microscopy from experimental group showed that the majority of neurons were disintegrating, the nuclear membrane has ruptured, and nucleoli appeared significantly distorted. The chromatin condensed and the mitochondria had disintegrated. Many vacuoles and lipofuscin sediment in cytoplasm, as compared to the control group noted. Conclusion: Present data demonstrated that moderate chronic aluminium exposure 4.2mg/kg body weight induced neurodegeneration in hippocampus but not significant for Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis.

Introduction: Menorrhagia is one of the commonest clinical conditions for which patients seek advice in the gynecological outpatient department. Aim and objectives of study: To determine the prevalence of various histopathological changes, patterns and lesions of endometrium associated with menorrhagia in the women of different age groups; to describe the morphological features of various lesions of endometrium; to assess demographic pattern of various types of endometrium lesions in this part of our country and to do clinicopathological correlation and give diagnosis based on it. Materials and methods: This was a prospective, non-interventional and observational hospital based crosssectional one year study carried out between January 2020 to June 2021 in Histopathology Department of Dhiraj Hospital on 52 cases of D & C and hysterectomy specimens. All the specimens were fixed in 10% formalin were received in the department of Pathology and processed and embedded in paraffin wax. Multiple serial sections of 4-5 microns thickness were obtained from the paraffin block and then stained with H & E. Detailed study of the sections was done by light microscopy. Results: 52 cases of menorrhagia were studied clinically and histopathologically. In present study, large proportion of patients with menorrhagia showed proliferative endometrial pattern (38.46%) followed by secretory phase (34.62%). Hyperplastic pattern was seen in 13.46% of patients. Non hyperplastic endometrial pattern was more common than hyperplastic pattern. Simple hyperplasia was more commonly seen than complex and atypical hyperplasia. Overall incidence of atypical hyperplasia was low (28.57%) and atrophic endometrium seen in 5.7% of cases. Endometrial polyp was seen in 3.84% cases and endometrial carcinoma was seen in 3.84% cases. Conclusion: Histopathological study of endometrium is very useful to reveal different endometrial patterns in menorrhagia and to distinguish between anovulatory and ovulatory causes. It is also useful for the diagnosis of endometrial hyperplasia and endometrial carcinoma.

Background: Mucormycosis, once a rare fungal disease, has now shown a surge in cases, and its epidemiology in India is intriguing. Rising incidence confers the necessity of defining the demography of the population at risk, early diagnosis, and recommendations for the management of mucormycosis in patients with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infection. Aims: To study the clinico-epidemological profile, risk factors, and histopathological features of COVID-19-associated Mucormycosis (CAM). Setting and Design: This is a retrospective observational study. Material and Methods: Fifty-six biopsy specimens taken from patients of COVID-19 with clinical suspicion of mucormycosis were included. Results: Diabetes mellitus, corticosteroids, and oxygen therapy were the most common risk factors associated with CAM. The mean duration between the onset of symptoms of COVID-19 and onset of CAM was 25.2 ± 15.3 days. Rhino-orbito-cerebral mucormycosis (ROCM) was present in 24.5% of the cases, with a survival rate of 58.3%. Histopathology showed tissue invasion by branching broad-based, pale, fungal hyphae consistent with mucor in 49 (87.5%) cases. Inflammation was acute neutrophilic type in 61.2% of the patients with a survival rate of 63.33%. The survival rate with chronic non-granulomatous and chronic granulomatous was 100% and 81.8%, respectively. Conclusion: Keeping a high index of suspicion for mucormycosis in COVID-19 by all medical fraternities of the health community in the existence of risk factors is the need of the hour for prompt diagnosis. Biopsy of antral necrotic tissue should be performed immediately after suspicion for histopathological study to confirm the diagnosis of mucormycosis and predict prognosis depending on the type of inflammation incited, fungal morphology, load, and necrosis.

Endometrial cancer is the most common gynecological malignancy in developed countries and its incidence has been increasing over recent years. Symptoms include postmenopausal bleeding, abnormal vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain, and dyspareunia. Risk factors include obesity, unopposed estrogen exposure, family history of endometrial or ovarian cancer, and Lynch syndrome. Diagnosis is con?rmed through endometrial biopsy, hysteroscopy, or dilation and curettage. Treatment options depend on the stage and grade of the cancer and may include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or a combination. This review article summarizes the current state of knowledge on endometrial cancer, including its epidemiology, risk factors, clinical presentation, diagnostic methods, and treatment options. Recent advancements in the ?eld, including emerging biomarkers and targeted therapies, are highlighted. The authors conducted a systematic search of the literature on endometrial cancer, and the results were synthesized and presented using a narrative synthesis approach. The epidemiology of endometrial cancer underscores the importance of preventive measures, including regular gynecological checkups and lifestyle modi?cations to reduce obesity and improve reproductive health

Effort to explore the adverse effect of the plant, Momordica charantia on mammals has remained inadequate despite previous attempt by earlier investigators. More glaring is the paucity of information on the histomorphological effect of the plant’s aqueous leaf extract hence the need to determine possible alteration of tissue structures in reproductive organs of adult Wistar rats which may affect their functions. This study aimed at determining the effect of Momordica charantia aqueous leaf extract (MCALE) on the reproductive organs of experimental adult Wistar rats. Materials and Methods: Twenty five rats (male and female) weighing 180-200g were randomly divided into five (5) groups of five rats each. The experimental groups, A to D were fed on standard diet and administered with 100, 200, 400 and 800 mg/kg body weight /day of MCE orally using gavage for 30 days. Rats in the control groups were fed on standard diet and physiological saline orally. Organs were harvested, fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin (ovaries) and Bouin’s fluid (testes), embedded in molten paraffin wax, sectioned with a rotary microtome and stained with the haematoxylin and eosin technique. Stained slides were examined using the Olympus microscope. Results: Sections of ovaries administered 100 mg/kg of the extract showed vesicular spaces in corpus luteum and enlarged blood vessels. Sections treated with 200 mg/kg revealed follicular cyst and mild vacuolation of zona granulosa. Sections of the ovaries administered 400 mg/kg revealed degenerative changes, follicular cyst, mild vacuolation and reduction of zona granulosa layer while those treated with 800 mg/kg showed severe vacuolation of the zona granulosa layer. Conclusion: Momordica charantia caused histomorphological changes in ovaries of Wistar rats which could cause hormonal imbalance and infertility in females. No histomorphological changes were observed in male testes.

ABSTRACT

Although breast carcinoma is common, metastatic deposits to the breast from extramammary neoplasms are rare. Clinically and radiologically, metastatic neoplasms may mimic primary benign and malignant neoplasms of the breast. A correct diagnosis of metastasis to the breast is of considerable importance since the treatment of primary and secondary malignancies of the breast is different. We report 4 cases of extra mammary primary cancers metastasizing to the breast, diagnosed by biopsy, in a period of 5 years in our tertiary care centre. Each of the cases had different characteristics. A good knowledge of cytomorphology and histomorphology, together with clinical correlation and comparison with previous histopathological evidence, will prevent a misdiagnosis and aid in optimal management and therapy.

Abstract This case series included a tomographic, microbiological, and histopathological description of 15 secondary apical periodontitis (SAP) lesions obtained by apical microsurgery performed in 10 patients to better understand the etiology and pathogenesis of SAP. Preoperative tomographic analyses were performed through Cone beam computerized tomography - Periapical index (CBCT-PAI), and apical microsurgeries were then carried out. The removed apices were used for microbial culturing and for molecular identification using PCR for the detection of 5 strict anaerobic bacteria (P. gingivalis, P. intermedia, P. nigrescens, T. forsythia, and T.denticola) and 3 viruses Herpes simplex viruses (HSV), Cytomegalovirus (CMG) and Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) by nested PCR. The removed apical lesions were histologically described. Univariate statistical analyses were performed by using STATA MP/16 (StataCorp LLC, College Station, TX, United States). CBCT-PAI analyses revealed PAI 4 and PAI 5 score lesions that involved cortical plate destruction. Eight SAPs were positive by culture, while nine SAP lesions were positive by PCR. Fusobacterium species were the most frequently cultured organisms in 7 SAP lesions, followed by D. pneumosintes in 3. In contrast, by single PCR, T. forsythia and P. nigrescens were detected in 5 lesions, T. denticola in 4 lesions, and P. gingivalis in 2 lesions. Twelve periapical lesions were granulomas, and the remaining three SAP lesions were radicular cysts. In conclusion, this case series study revealed that secondary apical lesions presented tomographic involvement of PAI 3 to 5, and that most SAP lesions were apical granulomas containing anaerobic and facultative microorganisms.


Resumo Esta série de casos incluiu uma descrição tomográfica, microbiológica e histopatológica de 15 lesões de periodontite apical secundária (SAP) obtidas por microcirurgia apical realizada em 10 pacientes para melhor compreender a etiologia e patogénese do SAP. As análises tomográficas pré-operatórias foram realizadas através de tomografia computadorizada de feixe cônico - índice Periapical (CBCT-PAI), e as microcirurgias apicais foram então realizadas. Os ápices removidos foram utilizados para a cultura microbiana e também para a identificação molecular por PCR para a detecção de 5 bactérias anaeróbias rigorosas (P. gingivalis, P. intermedia, P. nigrescens, T. forsythia, e T.denticola) e 3 vírus Herpes simplex (HSV), Cytomegalovirus (CMG) e Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) por PCR aninhada. As lesões apicais removidas foram descritas histologicamente. Foram realizadas análises estatísticas univariadas utilizando STATA MP/16 (StataCorp LLC, College Station, TX, Estados Unidos da América). As análises CBCT-PAI revelaram lesões PAI 4 e PAI 5 que envolveram a destruição da placa cortical. Oito SAPs foram positivos por cultura, enquanto nove lesões de SAP foram positivas por PCR. As espécies de Fusobacterium foram os organismos mais frequentemente cultivados em 7 lesões SAP, seguidas por D. pneumosintes em 3. Em contraste, por PCR simples, T. forsythia e P. nigrescens foram detectados em 5 lesões, T. denticola em 4 lesões, e P. gingivalis em 2 lesões. Doze lesões periapicais foram granulomas, e as restantes três lesões SAP foram cistos. Em conclusão, este estudo de série de casos revelou que as lesões apicais secundárias apresentavam envolvimento tomográfico de PAI 3 a 5, e que a maioria das lesões de SAP eram granulomas apicais contendo microrganismos anaeróbios e facultativos.

Background: Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) or menstrual bleeding of abnormal amount, duration, or schedule is a common gynecological condition occurring in up to 50% of women of all age groups. Chronic, heavy, prolonged, or irregular uterine bleeding can lead to anemia, and raise a concern about severe underlying malignancy. Therefore, histopathological examination of the endometrium is critical in evaluating the cause of AUB. Aims and Objectives: The aims of this study were to study the various histomorphological patterns in endometrial biopsies in cases of AUB. Materials and Methods: This is a retrospective study done on 212 endometrial tissues in women presenting with AUB. The study is aimed at analyzing the histopathological changes occurring in the endometrium by identifying the cause of bleeding and recording the incidence of various histopathological findings in different age groups. Results: Proliferative endometrium, the most common histopathological finding, accounted for 51.9% of cases, followed by secretory endometrium (24.5%). Eight cases of disordered proliferative endometrium were found in the present study. Eight cases, accounting for 3.8% of endometrial hyperplasia, were associated with AUB, out of which two cases were found to be complex hyperplasia with atypia. Endometrial carcinoma was seen in two cases associated with AUB. Pregnancy-related changes were found in 7 (3.3%) cases, retained product of conception was the leading cause of bleeding (3 cases). Conclusion: Histopathological evaluation of endometrium in women presenting with AUB is of paramount importance not only to diagnose various benign conditions but also to detect some highly malignant lesions and precancerous conditions so that early interventions can be started.

Background: Leprosy or Hansen抯 disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae is a chronic granulomatous disease characterized by hypoesthetic skin lesions and nerve involvement. The objective of the study was to find clinicohistopathological correlation of Hansen抯 disease diagnosed at a tertiary care centre of eastern India. Material and Methods: Hospital based retrospective study was conducted that included cases of leprosy diagnosed clinically and examined for histopathology at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna from January 2021 to December 2021. Clinical diagnosis was correlated with that of histopathological diagnosis. Result: From this study, it was observed that, the commonest age group affected by leprosy was 20 to 40 years, males were more commonly affected than females (M:F = 1.83: 1) and commonest clinically diagnosed spectrum was Tuberculoid leprosy (TT) ( 48.03%). It was observed that there was complete agreement between clinical diagnosis and histopathological diagnosis in 84.3% cases and disagreement was observed in 15.7% cases. Conclusion: Combining clinical, and histopathological finding of leprosy is essential for accurate diagnosis and thus proper treatment of the patient and prevention of complications.

Dimethoate commonly used as environmental ares for control pests which is widely used throughout in the world and itcaused toxic effects on nontarget organisms especially mammalian. Ferulic acid is known to protective compound generally used in toxicology studies. Thus, inthis study, we investigatedthe protective role of ferulic acid against the possible toxic effects of low and high doses of dimethoate. Male rats were randomly divided into six groups: control; ferulic acid; low and high dose dimethoate; both ferulic acid and low dose dimethoate; both ferulic acid and high dose dimethoate. The dimethoate treatment to rats caused oxidative stress in liver and kidney tissue via increased malondialdehyde levels and changes in superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase and glutathione-S-transferase activities. All dose dimethoate treatments also caused histopathological alterations and differences in activities in alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, total protein, albumin, lactate dehydrogenase, total cholesterol, urea, uric acid, and creatinine levels. The histopathological results verified the biochemical findings for both liver and kidney. Co-administration of ferulic acid with dimethoate improved antioxidative parameters and eased some biochemical parameters mentioned above. Ferulic acid was also seen to play a beneficial role in the histopathological effects of dimethoate for both liver and kidney.

Benzene is a notorious toxicant that is responsible for a host of diseases including leukemia. Its concentration in the environment is increasing day-by-day due to excessive automobile use, accelerated industrial activities and cigarette smoke. The awareness on the harmful effects of benzene on health is limited and no antidote has been reported yet. In this study, an attempt has been made to find out a suitable remedy to overcome benzene toxicity in a living organism from a natural source with the seeds of the plant Moringa oleifera (MO). Thirty six Wistar rats were considered for the study and divided into six groups (n=6). While group I remained as control with normal animals, those in groups II – VI received benzene by oral route (800 mg/kg body weight) for 28 consecutive days. On day 29, the benzene-treated animals in groups III – VI received respectively the standard drug ascorbic acid (AA, 25 mg/kg body weight) and MO (50, 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight) for the following 7 days. Group II rats that received only benzene served as negative control without any treatment. On day 36, all the animals were sacrificed and vital organs liver and kidney were removed for studying lipid peroxidation (LPO) and antioxidant markers [Superoxide dismutase (SOD), Total reduced glutathione (TRG), Glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and Catalase (CAT)] in addition to histopathological changes in the tissues. The results of the study revealed that significant changes occurred in the above parameters due to benzene dosing to animals were reverted to near normal values on MO administration in the liver and kidney tissues as compared to untreated animals, suggesting MO’s pro-active role in attenuating benzene toxicity.

Gum Arabic (Acacia nilotica L.) is a respected plant that has many nutrients and curative practices. It hinders, improves, or manages many disorders. The radio-protective activity of Acacia nilotica was investigated against γ-rays-induced testicle damage in rats. Twenty-four rats were correspondingly distributed into 4 groups; control, Acacia nilotica (15mg/kg, daily for 30 days), γ-irradiated (5Gy γ-rays, single dose) and Acacia nilotica plus γ-rays treated groups. The plasma testosterone and total antioxidant status (TAS) were estimated. Lipid peroxidation; malondialdehyde (MDA), reduced glutathione (GSH), malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), also glutathione peroxidase (GPx), catalase (CAT), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) with interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß), were determined in the testicle tissues. A testis weight, sperm count and motility, peripheral-blood and bone-marrow micronuclei (PMN and BMN), and frequency of chromosomal aberrations (CAs) were scored. A significant decline in the levels of plasma testosterone with TAS observed in the γ-irradiated rats. The results also showed significantly increased levels of testicle MDA, inflammatory markers, PMN, BMN and CAs frequencies and decrease in testes weight, sperm count and motility and levels of testicle antioxidants markers in gamma irradiated group. All these biochemical and fertility indices results were significantly enhanced in the Acacia nilotica plus γ-rays treated groups. However, the possible alleviate activity of Acacia nilotica on γ-rays-induced testicle injury in rats has not previously conversed, and this is the topic of this study.
